A Pain Free Hospital Birth with First Time Mom Stephanie Okori

When most women think about giving birth, they picture pain, screaming, and fear. It’s the narrative we’ve seen in movies, heard in stories, and often internalized without question. But what if birth could be something entirely different—something empowering, peaceful, and even pain-free? For Stephanie Okori, a licensed therapist, Christian life coach, and mother of two, this radical idea became her reality. Through her faith in God and the powerful mindset tools she learned in the Pain Free Birth course, Stephanie transformed what was once her greatest fear into one of the most empowering experiences of her life.

Discovering a New Way to Give Birth

Stephanie’s journey began during her first pregnancy with her son. She admits she was the “miserable pregnant woman”—nauseated, overwhelmed, and scared of giving birth.

Everything changed when she found the book Supernatural Childbirth by Jackie Mize. This book, filled with biblical promises about birth, planted a seed of hope. Inspired, Stephanie sought out others who believed the same thing. That’s when she found the Pain Free Birth course by Karen Welton.

“I’m literally walking proof that it works,” Stephanie said. As a therapist and life coach, she deeply understood the power of belief and mindset—and the course aligned perfectly with both her faith and her professional perspective.

The Mindset Shift That Changed Everything

One of the first modules of the Pain Free Birth course—“What’s In Your Bag?”—was a turning point. This exercise challenged Stephanie to unpack her fears, misconceptions, and limiting beliefs about childbirth. As she journaled through the process, she uncovered one major theme: fear.

“I realized I wasn’t just afraid of the unknown. I was paralyzed by the idea of pain,” Stephanie shared.

Learning about the fear-tension-pain cycle was a game changer. Stephanie discovered that fear causes tension in the body, which leads to pain. But by letting go of fear, she could break the cycle and experience a completely different labor.

She didn’t just learn the theory—she practiced it. She meditated on scripture, visualized a peaceful birth, and replaced fear with faith every step of the way.

Letting God Lead the Way

What made the Pain Free Birth course especially meaningful for Stephanie was the spiritual integration. “It wasn’t just mindset—it was faith-based. It brought God into the picture,” she explained.

As someone who is deeply spirit-led, Stephanie felt God guiding her to the course. She didn’t even know it was Christian-based at first—but once she saw scripture and biblical affirmations woven throughout, she knew it was exactly what she needed.

“It empowered my faith and gave me the practical tools I needed.”

Facing Labor with Confidence

Stephanie’s labor began at home around 1:00 AM. Her first contraction caught her off guard. “It felt like an intense period cramp, and I panicked at first,” she recalled. “I was begging God to take it away.”

But then she remembered what she had learned: fear would only make it worse.

“I literally had a conversation with God,” she said. “He asked me, ‘What did you learn?’ and I immediately shifted. I let go of the fear and relaxed. That moment defined the rest of my labor.”

She spent the entire day laboring peacefully at home with her doula and husband. They played worship music, used comfort techniques, and circled the kitchen island while her husband applied counter-pressure. The rhythm of the contractions became familiar, even soothing.

Laboring at Home Until 10 Centimeters

At 4:00 PM, contractions were just two minutes apart. Stephanie and her team headed to the hospital. The car ride was challenging—she missed her husband’s hip squeezes—but she stayed calm and focused.

Here’s the shocker: when she arrived at the hospital, the staff didn’t believe she was in active labor.

“They were like, ‘You’re here for your induction tomorrow, right?’ I said no, I’m in labor,” Stephanie laughed. “I was so calm they didn’t believe me.”

It wasn’t until triage that the truth came out: she was fully dilated—10 centimeters.

Breathing Baby Down with No Epidural

Despite being in transition (often the most intense stage of labor), Stephanie was peaceful. “I wasn’t in pain. I was riding the wave of each contraction,” she said.

At one point during pushing, she lost her focus and briefly felt overwhelmed. “That was the second time I felt pain. But my doula brought me back. She told me to return to my inner space. And I did.”

Stephanie pushed in various positions—squatting, hands-and-knees, side-lying—until her baby was born at 6:58 PM. “He just popped out,” she said. “It was so smooth.”

She had some minor tearing, but overall, the birth was everything she had hoped for: unmedicated, fear-free, and full of faith.

A Different Kind of Beautiful: Her Second Birth Story

With her second pregnancy, Stephanie revisited the Pain Free Birth course. This time, she absorbed new layers of insight—especially about pushing techniques and postpartum prep.

But her second birth didn’t go according to plan.

Her baby was breech, surrounded by high amniotic fluid, and experiencing a high heart rate. Despite her prayers and preparation, Stephanie required a cesarean.

She was devastated at first. “I cried. I was like, ‘God, this wasn’t the plan.’”

But then she remembered God’s promise: “I will do it for you.”

Finding Peace in the Unexpected

In the OR, Stephanie played worship music. Her anesthesiologist turned out to be a Christian. The entire team created a peaceful, sacred space.

“I realized—this was still my holy birth,” Stephanie said. “God was there, just like He promised.”

Even more surprising? Her breastfeeding journey was easier than the first time. She had more milk, faster. “God showed me—He doesn’t need me to do it all. He can create without me striving.”

She continued using mindset and faith tools from the course throughout postpartum—especially when fears crept in. “Everything I learned still mattered. It carried me through postpartum, too.”

The Power of Faith-Filled Birth Education

Stephanie’s story is proof that your mindset shapes your experience—and that God can meet you in every birth, no matter how it unfolds.

From a calm, unmedicated hospital birth to a peaceful C-section, Stephanie experienced the full spectrum—and in both, she brought her faith, mindset, and preparation.

Here are some of her biggest takeaways:

  • Fear is the root of pain. Confront it early. Replace it with faith.

  • Mindset matters more than knowledge. Deal with fear before you pile on the education.

  • You can birth in peace—at home or in the hospital.

  • God is with you. In the pushing, in the surgery, in the recovery.

  • You’re not a victim of your labor—you are in partnership with your body and your Creator.

Final Thoughts: Reframing Your Birth Story

Whether your birth unfolds exactly how you planned or takes a different path, you still have power. You still have authority over your mindset. And you can still create a sacred, peaceful space for your baby to enter the world.

Stephanie’s journey is an invitation for all mothers to lean into faith, confront their fears, and prepare their hearts—not just their hospital bags.

As she says, “I’m walking proof that a pain-free birth is possible.”
