#54 | God Met Me in Labor: Emily Vondy’s Supernatural Birth Story

Labor stories often focus on pain, chaos, or fear—but what if a birth story could be full of divine joy, supernatural visions, and healing peace? In this deeply moving account, influencer, musician, and mama of six Emily Vondy shares how her fifth birth radically changed her understanding of God, motherhood, and herself. From a traumatic pregnancy loss to a laughter-filled labor in the presence of Jesus, Emily’s story will leave you believing that birth can be spiritually profound and wildly joyful.

A Story of Faith, Fear, and Surrender in Pregnancy

Emily’s journey to this birth began with heartache. Just six months before conceiving her daughter Vivian, she experienced an ectopic rupture—a physically and emotionally traumatic event. So when she found herself unexpectedly pregnant again, fear rushed in. “Pregnancy after loss hits different,” she shares. “There’s no longer that innocent joy. You’re aware of what could go wrong.”

Emily tried to pray, to surrender the fear, but her anxiety lingered. “All I could offer was a ‘yes and amen.’ And sometimes, that’s all God needs.” That night, she experienced something supernatural: she awoke in the middle of the night feeling as if God Himself was praying over her.

“He was speaking all the things I didn’t have the strength to pray: ‘You are equipped. You are thankful for this life. You will mother her well.’ It was like heaven opened.”

Trusting God When You Feel Weak

As her due date came and went—and went again—Emily entered the emotional trenches of late pregnancy. At 12 days past due, she felt mentally and physically exhausted. The idea of an induction loomed, and fear returned.

“I told my husband, ‘I don’t feel strong enough to do this again.’” That’s when he reminded her of a truth from Scripture: “When you are weak, He is strong.”

Something shifted.

“I realized I didn’t need to muster up strength—God was offering me His. It wasn’t up to me to do this perfectly.”

This perspective became a cornerstone of the rest of her birth journey. Rather than striving to control the outcome, Emily leaned fully into God’s presence.

Choosing Home Birth After Five Natural Births at a Birth Center

Despite having positive experiences at her local birth center, Emily felt a nudge to do something different. At 35 weeks, she decided to plan for her first home birth.

What changed her mind? An hour-long drive to the birth center—and the encouraging testimony of her sister-in-law who had recently birthed at home.

“She said, ‘Emily, what if it could be even better than your other births?’ That stayed with me.”

Emily began to imagine what it would feel like to bring heaven into her home, to birth in a sacred space surrounded by her family, in full trust of God’s design.

Facing Induction with Faith and Intention

Even with plans for a home birth, Emily eventually opted for a Foley balloon induction at 12 days past due. But instead of spiraling into stress, she and her husband spent the nights leading up to the procedure in prayer.

“We prayed together every night after the kids went to bed. We rebuked fear and invited peace.”

This intentionality laid a spiritual foundation that shifted everything. Even though the induction brought intense cramping and discomfort, Emily felt supernaturally calm and centered.

The Car Ride That Became Holy Ground

What should have been the worst part of labor—an hour-long drive in active labor—became the most sacred.

Terrified of the pain, Emily cried out to God: “Lord, help me.” In that moment, something miraculous happened.

She describes it as Jesus showing up in the car—and not in a distant, solemn way. He appeared as joyful, childlike, and jubilant.

“He was the conductor of an orchestra of angels, and He turned around to look at me with the biggest smile—like, ‘This is your day! You’re having a baby!’ I started laughing.”

Each contraction became a spiritual vision: Jesus running with her hand-in-hand up ocean waves. Then, when the waves felt too big, He picked her up and carried her.

“He wasn’t disappointed that He had to carry me—He was just as happy. It was the purest love I’ve ever felt.”

Labor Without Pain: When the Spirit Takes Over

The visions didn’t just bring emotional comfort—they transformed Emily’s physical experience. After the moment of surrender, the pain lessened significantly.

“I still felt the intensity of the contractions, but they weren’t painful. I was laughing through them. It felt like joy took over my body.”

She credits this to oxytocin and God’s presence working together—a perfect blend of spiritual and biological design.

“It’s wild how quickly your mindset can shift your entire birth experience.”

The Birth Itself: Peaceful, Fast, and Holy

By the time Emily arrived at the birth center, she was already in transition and ready to push. Within minutes, baby Vivian was born.

And for the first time in five births, Emily wept.

“I held her and just cried, thanking Jesus. I’d prayed for one moment of being present after birth—and He gave it to me.”

It was a bow on top of a miraculous story. “God didn’t have to give me that moment. But He did.”

How This Birth Shifted Her View of God

Emily’s birth with Vivian shattered old beliefs she had about God.

“I’ve always believed in God, but I often felt like I had to earn His love—do the right things, say the right prayers. But this experience showed me His love is free, joyful, and deeply personal.”

She now sees Jesus not just as a Savior—but as a joyful friend, celebrant, and companion.

How This Birth Changed Her Life and Parenting

In the days after giving birth, Emily felt a new connection to Vivian and a deeper understanding of what it means to trust God in motherhood.

“This birth gave me peace about completing our family. Vivian’s name means ‘lively,’ and she’s absolutely full of life. Her birth changed me.”

It also gave her a new lens on joy in motherhood. “I’ve had dark seasons where I let bitterness creep in. But now, I actively choose joy—because I’ve seen what’s possible when I surrender.”
